Nano: helo Beta testers
Seems the screen cracksProblems surfacing with iPod Nano screenPublished: September 24, 2005, 12:38 PM PDTBy Michelle MeyersCNET News.com StaffSome owners of Apple Computer's new "impossibly small" iPod Nano are starting to wonder if the device is also impossibly delicate. The most widespread complaint about the otherwise highly praised device seems to be that the color display screen gets scratched extremely easily.Nano owner Brian Cason posted one of 250-some threads in response to a recent post on Apple's discussion board about screen scratching."I don't really care if the case on my Nano g ... Apple to Replace Faulty Nano Screen
Sam Wil writes "Apple has acknowledged a flaw in the iPod nano screen that results in cracking, and attributes it to poor vendor quality. The defect affects less than one-tenth of 1 percent of all the nanos that have shipped so far. Apple will replace the screen of affected units for free." From the article: "However, the representative said that the screen-cracking issue is separate from reports that the slim new music player is more easily scratched than prior models. Complaints about both issues surfaced shortly after Apple introduced the flash memory-based Nano earlier this month. 'A few ... (more)

Problems Plague iPod Nano
Forbes reports that the new Apple iPod Nano has some problems with the screen -- it cracks. And that has some consumers very, very unhappy. One reason Apple Computer (nasdaq: AAPL - news - people ) is adored by its faithful: Its Mac computers and operating systems seem Gibraltar-steady, scarcely ever freezing or falling prey to malicious viruses and malware. Too bad the same can't be said for its iPods. ***** In May, Faces In The News reported that the computer giant issued a recall of potentially dangerous power cells. Then in June, we reported that the supposed "underdog" corporation--despi ... (more)

iPod Nano Recall?
Reader DennisDavid [sorry, David] just came back from Best Buy where he discovered that the Nano is being recalled. Truth? Fiction? Lies? All Lies? We don't know, but we will keep our ears peeled. In other news, we haven't received very many broken Nano photos, although one reader ran his through the wash without a problem, which means that unless you're wearing tight jeans the Nano-breaking-in-pocket may be an Urban Legend.

The overrated iPod
I'm beginning to wonder if iPods aren't just a little bit overrated. About two years ago my wife bought one. It lasted just over a year and then it died. It was probably a battery failure but the screen had become faint too. Since it was outside its one-year warranty period anyway, we just gave up on it. In April this year she bought an iPod mini. A couple of weeks ago it started acting up: even after leaving it all night to charge, it sometimes doesn't charge at all. Fortunately, it's still within it's warranty period. Unfortunately, with it being an intermittent problem it seems unlikely an ... (more)

The Great iPod Rip-Off!
iTunes 5.0's dirty little secret Ok, regular readers of this blog will note I've been singing iPods praises for the last two years. I purchased my ipod in 2003 and despite being 2 years old, the battery life is still pretty good and I use it daily. But what Apple Computers doesn't tell you is that when you download iTunes 5.0 you can no longer down load your purchased music to your iPod. Prior to downloading the new version I had roughly 1,000 songs on my iPod, while those 1,000 songs are still in my library on my computer, they will no longer download to my iPod. Donkey had the same problem ... (more)

How long should a Treo 600 last? How about an IPod?
A confluence of five events: My two year old Treo 600 stopped working: Despite my best efforts to revive it. Reboots, hard resets, new software - it was dropping calls all the time and had finally become unusable. Took it to the Sprint Store where their tech played with it for 1/2 hour and came to the conclusion that it was defective. As it was out of warrantee, my only option was to turn it back in to them for a $50 credit towards my next phone. There is no repair option. There is no authorized repair facility. Apple IPOD quality issues
Apple has the hot product with the IPOD but quality of the product seems to be severely lacking at times. Several cases have been noted in which the company apparently made a design mistake and chose to not recall the product. The highest profile example was with the battery of early generations IPODs which would die after limited use (e.g. 18 months). This resulted in a settlement after a class action lawsuit was brought and the company began to bombarded with complaints. Nonetheless, there have been other issues with the Mini and Nano that also have surfaced; static ... (more)

How on any one earth can a single woman achieve such grace, such depths of sadness and breath-wrenching heights of joy, renewed album after album the way Heather Nova very often does? Putting Apple on the scales
I've made a decision regarding iPods, with this year's Apple Expo (Fr) coming up and Paris inescapably plastered with advertisements for the newest Nano version on the best-selling theme. This "pencil-thin" beauty and those iPod Minis strike me as ways of burning holes in your wallet or rainbow-coloured handbag, unless you are into fashion accessories. It's not their impressive technology I contest, but the pointlessness perhaps of paying such a sum (around 200 dollars) for just two GB of storage space when you could regard what I'd call a "proper" iPod as a wiser investment and true value fo ...
